Yes, but... What do #Skyrim and #DarkSouls have in common? Similar gameplay to cut-scenes ratio. Like, trillion to one. Remove the word "cinematic" from your game and voila, budget at least halved. Forces you to make a better game, too. You're welcome. https://t.co/LZ6ee2EG5S pic.twitter.com/FPM9JmUOTB— Adrian Chmielarz (@adrianchm) 16 января 2018 г.
I mean, if you cannot compete with the big boys like Kojima, Rockstar or Naughty Dog, going "cinematic" is probably not the wisest of options. But "cinematic" is not sine qua non of a successful SP game. There's a reason why SKIP CUT-SCENE is a standard feature these days.— Adrian Chmielarz (@adrianchm) 16 января 2018 г.
Yes, another big area to look at to keep the budget in check. Scripted events can be cool but they are one-offs that are super costly. The work (design, implementation, bugfixing) to pay off (five seconds of the game, impressive once) ratio is disgusting. https://t.co/zNXTdG2W2H— Adrian Chmielarz (@adrianchm) 16 января 2018 г.
But *you* can compete with the big boys. And successfully at that. So it does not apply to you :) Aside from that, there are always exceptions to everything in gamedev. It's beautiful.— Adrian Chmielarz (@adrianchm) 16 января 2018 г.
